A Brief Guide to Christmas Events in Bath, Somerset

Bath is a city you can visit at any time of the year for a relaxing break, as well as immersing yourself in its vibrant culture and exploring much of its historical heritage and the many attractions it's so well-known for.

With the Christmas season fast approaching there is never a better time to visit this beautiful spa city with its eclectic mix of the art's, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, country markets, live music, comedy and of course seasonal pantomimes. Here is a small guide to a selection of highlights which are worth adding to your itinerary or things to see and do around this lovely Georgian period city.

For anyone wanting to experience a special seasonal ball, why not try & make it to the "Black and Gold Ball" being held in the spectacular ball room of the Georgian Pump Room in the city centre, which takes place on the 26th November.

This year's theme is the 'Moulin Rouge' and is a charity fundraising event supporting Victor Ubogu's Nordoff Robbins - Childline 2012 Bike Ride. There will be a range of sporting celebrities attending and its all for a good cause, so why not enjoy a traditional English ball in beautiful surroundings of Bath

If you are looking for a fantastic Christmas exhibition, then the 'Jane Austen's Regency Christmas' exhibition could be just the place to visit during the festive period. The exhibition is taking place at the Jane Austen Centre, which is set in the heart of the city. The Jane Austen's Regency Christmas exhibition takes place from the 26th October to the end of December. It portrays how the festive season was celebrated in the Georgian period and also depicts the life and times of one of Bath's most famous residents.

Another highlight in the Christmas events calendar is the Guildhall Christmas Market which commences daily from the 24th November, running until the 11th December. The Christmas Market is being held in Bath's historical Guildhall and offers seasonal shoppers an indoor shopping experience during the Christmas period, giving people a broad selection of festive goods and gifts from market traders and stall-holders selling their local wares.

Next is the Christmas at Claverton, at the American Museum in Britain. This is a wonderful seasonal event celebrating "Twelve Days of Christmas" from the 25th December. Claverton House is home to the American Museum and features one of the largest collections of Americana in the UK. This special exhibition has been designed to show visitors how the early American settlers spent the long winter periods.
